Maj. Badami, John T.

Biography

Major Badami began his military service by graduating from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina in 1987.  While enlisted, he served as a basic security guard with the Marine Corps Security Forces Pacific, Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team.  Upon the end of his enlistment, Major

Badami served in United States Marine Corps Reserve, 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company for one year ending his enlisted reserve service in 1992 as a Sergeant to attend college full time.

 

Major Badami graduated cum laude from the University of West Georgia in 1997 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.  Major Badami was Commissioned through the Platoons Leaders Course Combined and reported to The Basic School in 1998. Following The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, he reported to Infantry Officers Course.

His next assignment was with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  Major Badami spent 18 months as a Rifle Platoon Commander with the 3/8 deploying with the Battalion Landing Team for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in which he supported Operations ALLIED FORCE, SHINING HOPE, JOINT GUARDIAN, and AVID RESPONSE.   This tour included deployments to Albania, Kosovo, and Turkey.  He was then assigned to 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company also in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he was frocked to Captain and served as a Reconnaissance Platoon Commander deploying in support of Dynamic Mix in Greece and as the Company’s Operations Officer responsible for the planning and execution of Deep Strike ISO CAX ‘00.  He was then transferred to Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT) in 2001.

While serving with EWTGLANT from 2001 to 2004, Major Badami served as an instructor for the Naval Expeditionary Warfare Training and for the Center for Security Forces sections under EWTGLANT where he taught the Marine Corps Planning Process and the Antiterrorism Force Protection Level II courses of instruction through numerous iterations of various resident and Mobile Training Teams classes.  During this time, Major Badami graduated from Old Dominion University with a Masters of Public Administration and the Expeditionary Warfare School via seminar attendance.  In 2005, Major Badami attended and completed the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course (FACCC) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a part of his Professional Military Education.

Upon completion of the FACCC, Major Badami was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines aboard Camp Pendleton, California.  He served as the Battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer, the Weapons Company Commander, the Battalion Fire Support Coordinator, the Headquarter’s and Service Company Commander, and a Military Transition Team (MiTT) Leader.  He deployed in support of OIF 05-7 with BLT 1/4, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Weapons Company Commander and upon returning from the deployment he served as the H&S Company Commander. Major Badami then volunteered and served as the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines MiTT Leader in support of the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 7th Iraqi Army Division in Baghdadi, Iraq during OIF 06-8 to complete his tour with the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines.

Major Badami was then assigned to serve as the Company Inspector and Instructor for Co G of the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines in 2008.  Upon the Battalion’s activation, Major Badami was integrated with the deploying Reserve Battalion to serve as the Operations Officer.  He served as the Battalion Operations Officer throughout the units pre-deployment training program and deployment to Ar Ramadi, Iraq in support of OIF 09.1/2.  Upon returning, he was again assigned to continue his service as the Inspector and Instructor for Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines. 

Major Badami’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.  Major Badami is married to his wife Joanna and they have two sons Aiden aged 17 and Sean aged seven.
